About me!

Howdy, I’m Sophie Wills! I recently graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a BFA in Design, Technology, and Management from the Department of Theatre & Dance, focused primarily on technical direction. I currently work for The Juilliard School as the Technical Direction Apprentice for their 2026-2027 season.

For 20 years, I lived in Austin, TX, attending Texas A&M University for 2 years before deciding that mechanical engineering was not the path for me. Technical direction came out of nowhere and helped me to combine all of my favourite parts of mechanical engineering, without sentencing me to sitting in front of a computer in a cubicle for the rest of my life. I love and want to continue building, drafting, rigging, painting, electrics, and whatever else I can get my hands on.

Performance and the arts have always been an integral part of myself, so as a flute player of 10+ years and now as a technician, and I’m so excited to absorb and create as much as I can. Outside of the theatre, I’m learning Spanish and Portuguese, I read a lot of books (and way too much Harry Potter), and I try to get outside and photosynthesize whenever I can.
